Cellester Laate was the brother of Zuni fetish carver Danette Laate and the cousin to Sly Walela, Randy and Gale Lucio, Jared Amesoli, and Yancy Robert Halusewa. He was exceptional in his work mostly with Mother-of-Pearl as exemplified by this great Mother-of-Pearl rabbit fetish. The fur, head, and ears are carved in great detail, and the eyes are inlaid of Sleeping Beauty turquoise and the carving is initialed C.L. in the typical fashion of Celester Laate. Sadly Cellester passed away in 2002 at the age of 26.
