Wide, brown and multi-hued gray, boldly veined Picasso marble bear carved in a very alert stance with prominent upraised tail, upraised head, inlaid turquoise eyes (high relief), somewhat larger-than-usual ears, incised nostril holes, plus an offering bundle of 1 1/4" leaf-shaped turquoise arrow point topped by a 7/8" deep red "blood coral" branch fragment. Francis made this beautifully finished bear out of a striking piece of Picasso marble, a stone he very seldom carved. Francis died in May of 2003 and was the son of Leekya Deyuse, brother of Sarah Leekya and Alice Leekya Homer and father of carvers Delvin, Hayes and Freddie Leekya.
