Classic Zuni medicine bear fetish hand Carved from a lovely orange spiney oyster shell with turquoise inlaid eyes and heart line. Stewart's bears are the most iconic symbol of Zuni fetish carving and are highly sought after by serious fetish collectors world wide. Stewart is the son of Ellen and Dixie Quandelacy born in 1949. After Naval service in Vietnam, Stewart began carving regularly, starting with stringing fetishes and then progressing to standing fetishes. In the 1970s, he originated and subsequently became famous for this "medicine bear," a highly stylized bear fetish with it's zigzag inlaid heartline.
