Largely gray "Zuni rock" travertine wolf carved ca. 1950-1962 with hand tools in rather nice style with very simple shape, straight-back "bushytail" with two undulations in the top of it, plus an offering bundle of a flat 3/4" greenish turquoise arrow point topped by a hand-cut flat 3/8" turquoise disk bead, four heishe beads and distinctive 2 1/4" spray of dried feather and horsehair pointing forward, all "tied" with Weahkee's characteristically heavy wrapping of old sinew. It was originally purchased in 1969 - four years after Weahkee's death- from The Turquoise Shop, in Tucson , AZ.; see Zuni Fetish Carvers, The Mid-Century Masters, McManis, page 45 for similarly feather-adorned and wrapped fetishes. Teddy was born ca. 1890 and died in 1965 and is one of the renowned "big three" early and mid 20th century Zuni master carvers, along with Leekya Deyuse and Theodore Kucate, and the progenitor of today's extended Weahkee, Leki, Boone, Gasper, Tsikewa and other carving families.
