Bernard is from one of the most illustrious carving families at Zuni. His Father was Bernard Homer Sr who was one of the most accomplished and respected carvers and jeweler at the Zuni Pueblo, who married Alice Leekya, who was the daughter of Leekya Deyuse(the Rembrandt of Zuni fetish carving). Bernard was taught to carve by Leekya Deyuse and remained true to that style throughout his career, Bernard Jr in turn learned to carve from his Father, their styles are hard to differentiate.
