Wonderful Zuni maiden Hand Carved from a rare orthoceras fossil with turquoise inlaid face and necklace with incised dragonflies. This orthoceras fossil came from Morocco and is between 250 and 400 million years old. Faye was an internationally renowned Zuni fetish carver who graduated from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, where she studied under Allan Houser the great Hopi sculpture. Her sought-after artwork was sold at shows and galleries around the world, and one of her fetishes was once gifted to former President Bill Clinton on behalf of the State of New Mexico. Of special interest to Faye was the sculptural depiction of the three stages of womanhood: the Maiden, the Mother, and the Wise Elder. Faye was born in 1958 and passed away in 2022.
