Stewart Quandelacy medicine bear fetish with turquoise inlaid heart line and jet eyes Hand Carved from marble. Stewart is the son of Ellen and Dixie Quandelacy and was born in 1949. He started carving in grade school, as did most of his brothers and sisters (Andres, Avery, Barlow, Sandra, Dickie, Wilmer, Faye, and Georgia Quandelacy, and Albenita Yunie). After Naval service in Vietnam, Stewart began carving regularly, starting with stringing fetishes and then progressing to standing fetishes. In the 1970s, he originated and subsequently became famous for this "medicine bear," a highly stylized bear fetish with a zigzag inlaid heartline. Aside from being a master fetish carver, he is also a rancher, and he is very humble and likes to avoid the limelight.
